FAQ’s
What is TCYC?
Twin Cities Youth Chorale is a nonprofit corporation formed to inspire singers to excellence in choral music through education and performance. We want to instill a love of music that will last a lifetime!
Who are the artistic directors?
Ann Wingert-Williams and Julie Bright are experienced teachers, active musicians and award-winning conductors who will rehearse TCYC every week.
What about rehearsals?
Rehearsals are held Tuesday afternoons from 4:30-6:00 PM at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 7217 West Broadway in Brooklyn Park. This is conveniently located on Highway 81 just north of I-694 near Grand Rios Water Park. Transportation to and from all rehearsals and most events will be the responsibility of each singer, however, a carpooling list will be circulated to those wishing to coordinate arrangements with another family or two. TCYC understands that schools dismiss as late as 4:00 PM…if you’re running a little late, let us know and do your vocal warm-up in the car while we do ours in the rehearsal hall!
What if my singer has a schedule conflict?
Our music directors also understand that conflicts occur and arrangements can be worked out. However, to be fair to fellow singers, any singer who misses three rehearsals will not be allowed to perform in the subsequent concert without first proving mastery of the musical selections with an Artistic Director.
What is the cost?
Tuition for the 2010-2011 performance season has been set at $325. This cost covers instruction from certified vocal teachers, music, rehearsal and performing space rentals, printing, admission and lunch at Grand Rios Water Park, etc. Financial assistance for up to one half of the tuition fee may be available to families demonstrating need. Concert uniform pieces are purchased through TCYC and predetermined stores at an estimated cost of an additional $60. Payment is due the day of fittings.
Auditions
Auditions for the 2010-2011 season will be held in May at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. A completed application is required to audition and is available for download or can be completed online from the “Join Us” portion of this website. Interested singers may also call Mr. Bob Hainlen at 763-425-4627 to schedule their 20-minute audition. At the audition, your singer will be grouped with 6-8 fellow singers and participate in a number of activities to assess rhythm, pitch matching, range, and stage presence. Practice files are also available on the “Join Us” portion of this website!
How will TCYC communicate audition results?
The results of a singer’s audition for acceptance to TCYC are e-mailed to the parent or guardian, along with our handbook, carpool list, tuition assistance application, and season schedule.
