Board
Twin Cities Youth Chorale is a non-profit organization incorporated in the State of Minnesota. The organization has been granted tax-exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service. Twin Cities Youth Chorale is governed by a Board of Directors. Board members include:

Michael Fredrick, President: Michael Fredrick is owner of Full Spectrum Business Consulting, LLC, providing accounting services for small to mid-size companies. Prior to starting his own business, Mr. Fredrick held a variety of accounting positions with manufacturing and life science companies in the Twin Cities.
Mr. Fredrick grew up in Vadnais Heights and graduated from White Bear Lake High School. In 1985 he graduated from the University of South Dakota with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. For the past several years, Mr. Fredrick has served as treasurer of the Deerhouse Investment Club. He is a past president and director of ACUIA, an association of credit union internal auditors. He has served on the Champlin Park Youth Hockey Association’s (CPYHA) Traveling Committee for the past four years and is currently its director for the 2010-11 season. He has also enjoyed coaching youth hockey and baseball in Champlin and Brooklyn Park area over the last twelve years.
Mr. Fredrick currently resides in Brooklyn Park with his wife Sandra and their two sons.
James Hoogheem, Vice President: James Hoogheem is a retired elementary school principal. He worked in Osseo Area School for 20 years, including 17 years at Fernbrook Elementary. Prior to coming to the Osseo Area Schools, he served in teaching and administrative roles at schools in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
As a principal at Fernbrook Elementary, Mr. Hoogheem was instrumental in expanding the music experiences for his students, having written and received several Artist-in-Residence grants. He has served on the Minnesota Elementary School Principals’ Board of Directors, and for six years he chaired the Educational Advisory Committee of that organization. He also served as State Challenge Master for Destination Imagination for 15 years.
Currently, Mr. Hoogheem facilitates administrative licensure panels for the University of Minnesota; is active on committees for ELCA Minnesota Area Synod; and, is a member of the board of directors of North Central Ministry Development Center. He is active in his church, serving as congregational president. He is the recipient of numerous awards for his service, including the Distinguished Service Award from MESPA, 2003 National Distinguished Principal, and the Spirit of DI Award.
David Mantini, Vice President: David Mantini is a member of the music faculty at North Hennepin Community college where he directs the Jazz Ensemble and teaches private instrumental lessons.
Mr. Mantini is a graduate of Luther College in Decorah, IA, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Trumpet Performance and Anthropology. He attended the University of North Texas and received a Master’s of Music Education with concentrations in Jazz Studies and Music History. While in Texas, Mr. Mantini was a clinician in various schools, and performed as a guest artist with the Dallas Brass. He spent six months touring professionally with the popular Christian band, Truth. After returning to Minnesota, he taught K-8 general music and 5-12 band in various schools, and performed with several bands.
Mr. Mantini is very active in his church, serving as chairman for the Administrative Counsel and past chairman of both Fun and Funding and the Stewardship committees.
Currently, Mr. Mantini performs with the Good News Big Band and the Elk River German Band. He also directs the Brooklyn United Methodist Big Band. In addition, he freelances across the Twin Cities and teaches instrumental lessons. He lives in Brooklyn Park with his wife and two sons.
Thomas Rose, Secretary: Tom Rose is Chief Counsel of ING Group Reinsurance Operations. Prior to joining ING, he worked in private practice with the law firm Foley & Lardner in Milwaukee. Mr. Rose holds a law degree from Marquette University Law School.
Mr. Rose grew up in a family of musicians, and initially pursued music as his profession. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Violin Performance and Music Education from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. He was a tenured member of the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra and Waukesha Symphony, performed with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Skylight Opera Orchestra, Bach Chamber Choir’s Chamber Orchestra, and was a member of the Chamber Arts Piano Trio.
Mr. Rose is committed to supporting the arts, as well as efforts to further education and performance opportunities for young musicians. His prior board experience includes service on the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors.
Duane Malewicki, Director Emeritus: Duayne Malewicki brings a wealth of choral and teaching experience to the TCYC Board. His legacy and vision are foundations upon which the TCYC organization is based.
Duayne is a native of Winona, MN, and graduated from Winona State with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and English in 1958, and a Master of Science in Music Education in 1963. He also completed graduate work at University of Minnesota-Duluth, St. Cloud State, University of Minnesota summer workshops, and at Stanford University working with Zoltan Kodály.
Duayne is an acclaimed teacher, choir director and administrator, having been honored with induction into the Minnesota Music Education Association’s Hall of Fame in 2000. He started his career teaching music and English in Mabel, MN, and then took a teaching position in Virginia, MN serving as elementary music supervisor. He later moved to the Osseo Area schools in 1963 where the balance of his public school teaching career was spent working as a music teacher and a vocal music supervisor.
Among Duayne’s legacy are two notable contributions, each of which has had longstanding positive impact. In 1967, he founded the District 279 Children’s Select Chorus and served as the group’s director for 26 years. That same year he also formed, with a committee, The Wastebasket Revue, a performing group which includes teachers, administrators and staff from the school district. It continues today and has contributed over $750,000 in scholarships to Osseo Area Schools’ graduating seniors.
In addition to teaching, Duayne directed high school musicals, church choirs and musicals, and helped create all phases of the Minnesota Music Curriculum. He has been a professional musician in dance bands (sax and piano) and as a vocal soloist singing pop and classical music. He maintains professional memberships in MMEA, MENC, ACDA and the Evergreen Club.
Duayne’s talents remain in demand and he keeps an active schedule. In addition to assisting TCYC, he currently directs the North Suburban Concert Chorale, is a member of CEAP Board and is involved in varied community service roles. Duayne and his wife, Dianne, both retired from teaching in 1993 and enjoy traveling and spending time with their three children and their families, including seven grandchildren.
